APS Closed April 17, 2019

Aurora Public Schools Community:

We will be closing all APS schools and Pickens Technical College on Wednesday, April 17 as a precaution. All before and after-school activities are cancelled as well. This was a collective decision made by superintendents across the Denver metro area. Law enforcement continues to look for an individual, 18-year-old Sol Pais, who is considered armed and dangerous. She has made a threat against schools in general. Her name, description and photograph have been shared widely in the media. She was last seen in the foothills of Jefferson County.

The FBI has set up a tip line for any information about the suspect’s whereabouts. Those with information are encouraged to call 303-630-6227 or email denverfbitips@fbi.gov.

Please know that we continue to work closely with the Aurora Police Department. At this time, we do not have any information about a specific threat involving any APS schools.

Schools across the Denver metro area will be closed on April 17 as school districts and law enforcement continue to plan for additional safety and security supports. We will provide you with more information as it becomes available.

We know that news such as this may be difficult and concerning for students. The National Association of School Psychologists provides a helpful resource on how to talk with children about violence.

Thank you for your patience and continued support. Please know that the safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority.
